phitigirl, 3cats, Honey, etc. Today, a quilting guild member brought over two bags of quilting magazines. Believe it or not, these date back to the seventies! If any of you have tried to chase down a pattern, or idea, I might just have the source! You can
mention your request here, or lucasnancy at hotmail dot com. What a hoot! Talk about a trip down memory lane. Or just a trip, LOL!

Honey, kath74, phitigirl, 3cats, other quilters and sewers, Here's a small sampling:
from NOV/DEC 1982, "Ode to Mother Goose" Part Two.
from JUN 1979, "Massachusetts Sampler."
from MAR/APR 1997, "Fancy Sue with Swag and Rosebud Quilting" (a Sunbonnet Sue variation)
from JUL 1976, "State Bird Quilt"
from JUN 1995, "Museums & Quilts: Tactile Architecture at Decatur House."

Sharing I am a beginner quilter. I haven't had much time to lately, but I plan on making a couple of baby quilts for my BFF who just found out she is having twins. I made a baby quilt for my BIL and SIL for their baby and it turned out fabulous. They were all
shocked that I could do it. (I am not the most domesticated woman in the world. I couldn't hem a pair of pants to save my life.)

Sharing; I am looking for a Cathedral Window pattern. I had one but can't find it here. It might be down in the shed, but since my DSIS is having her quilts done on a free arm quilter, I haven't been down yet. If you find one, I'd love to have it.

3 cats. I'll be delighted to look for that pattern. The guild member gave me...let me pause and count...33 in that pile...36 in that pile...26 in the last pile. Would you believe it! The oldest issue is 1972, and is entirely in black and white. The cost was 50 cents. Isn't that a trip down memory lane! Do you have any additional requests? It would take nothing to send you several copies.

Sharing – I have very fond memories of a quilt my grandma made for me as a little girl. I’m not sure what the official pattern name is, but it was an appliquéd little girl with a old-style sunbonnet that covered her whole head/face and a dress. Sadly this is one of the items that went missing when I moved out of my parent’s house. Someday I hope to re-create that quilt for my (future) daughter. I’m a little sad that I don’t have the same one though because one of the fabrics that grandma used for the blocks was also the fabric that I made my first ever sewing project out of; an apron that my grandma still has.

angel - I, too, am a relatively beginning quilter, so I will recommend this pattern, "And Baby Takes 3" for baby quilts. You take three different fabrics, 3/8 of a yard of each, and it goes together very fast and it doesn't look nearly as easy as it really is. My DH's cousin had twins (boy and girl) and I made them each basically the same quilt with this pattern in blue and pink and they turned out SO cute!
Sharing (2) - The quilt magazines are always a great find. The only pattern I'm really looking for now is a french braid quilt pattern. I saw a quilt made out of it once and I LOVE it. And I'm now thinking I have the confidence in my skills to give it a shot.
Hopefully it's not really as difficult as it looks!

angel, phiti, I'm a beginning quilter too. I'm an lifelong sewer, but new to quilting. It's Honey and 3cats who are the more experienced quilters.
3cats, I thanked the guild member today and told her about your request. She says there is definitely a cathedral pattern in the bunch.
reeneejune, It is indeed a Sunbonnet Sue pattern, as phiti says. If you send me your address, I'll send you Sunbonnet Sue patterns. I know I have those in a few different
books, magazines, including the one right beside me. In this issue (MAR/APR 1997), the article is "Sunbonnet Sue Gets Fancy." It's just a charmer.

Quilting I took a beginners quilting class and that is when I made the baby quilt for my BIL and SIL. I will probably use the same pattern for the quilt I want to make for BFF (who told me today she ISN'T having twins. The Dr saw something that he thought was
another baby in the first ultra sound but now only 1 baby shows). Anyway, the first one I made was made with baby flannel. It was the Hey Diddle Diddle fabric. Then I matched that with some different print flannels that was in the same line. It was seriously
gorgeous when it was done. I can't remember the name of the pattern though....

Toasty/Honey-I want a Sunbonnet Sue quilt. We learned about Sue in a folklore class. Of course, I want a Naughty Sunbonnet Sue quilt. Those are hysterical.

phitigirl - I think I know the "braid" pattern you are talking about. It resembles rectangles set at 45 degree angles with to each other with their outside corners clipped off and it runs vertically the length of the quilt. If this is it I most likely have a pattern for it in my Library. Let me know if you want me to check and I can send it to you.
Sunbonnet Sue Quilts .... GGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Do NOT get me started. I am not sure what it is about that sneaky little character that just makes me want to rip out my hair. I have several links showing quilts were she not only does bad things, but gets "whacked" . I guess I just don't trust anyone who won't show their face. What IS she hiding under that dorky hat? My family swings between thinking this animosity is hysterical - and shaking their heads and muttering about "therapy"
3cats - I am sure that in my over 100 books I can find you a good Cathedral Window pattern, or I have a couple of links to easily understood instructions on the internet. Let me know.
