Justice is supposed to be blind. Not influenced by a person's gender or color or whatever rumors may have been spread. And not swayed by a p-rick of a detective out to try and make a name for himself, or the tantrums of a self-absorbed teenager.
Justice is supposed to be blind.
I am hoping this is true today as I pray for Damian & Theda. The entire situation with her daughter, the ex-husband and all the B.S. that has occurred since last fall would take pages and pages to recount. Besides it is not my story to share.
As I listened in growing disbelief and horror as Theda told me last Friday about the possibility that even their lawyer acknowledges could happen - that Damian could be sent to prison for life without parole for something it has been proven he did not do - I just wanted to vomit.
I do not want to believe that an innocent man could face such a fate because of another's man's perception of a situation. With no physical, forensic or biological evidence to support the claims of a snarky overindulged teenager and her vindicative manipulative father. The forensic detective found no evidence. social Services closed the case and dropped all charges because not only was there no evidence or witnessed - but the girl's story has changed each time she tells it.
And yet there is STILL the real possibility that Damian could be imprisoned for life? His family destroyed? And his reputation shattered anyways?
Here? .............. In America?
Perhaps I am just naive, or stupid, but I find it hard to believe or accept such a thing. Not here in my country - to my friends.
But all I can do is pray and worry and pray some more. That calm and reason and rational minds shall prevail. That personal sentiment or greedy ambition not be allowed to persuade or entice.
That justice is blind - and prevails.
Justice is supposed to be blind.
