03 April 2009
It is Friday afternoon and I don't want to be productive. I need to grab a sweater and put on my sandals to go get some grass seed to scatter before the snow comes tonight. Maybe get some milk. But right now I am holding a very dusty Onyx while she takes one of her afternoon naps. The birds were twittering and the grass was greening today. A siren call to her for sure. She staggered inside about fifteen minutes ago after being out for almost three hours guzzled some water and squeeked until I properly paid attention and picked her up. This is a good way to postpone cleaning the fridge, I guess.

So funny! As I was getting things ready to shut down for the night I saw TJ in his basket snoozing away, Onyx snuck over to see if there was anything interesting in his bowl (right next to his basket), he didn't even move except to stick his paw out to shove her away then to cover and "protect" his (empty) bowl from her. He didn't move his paw until she gave up and walked away and he went right back to sleep. Guess he is learning to stick up for himself. Finally!

Why, why, why? Why does Onyx head directly for the rain puddles on the deck or sidewalk for a drink? And now she is chomping down on a snow drift. TJ is just watching, he is perfectly satisfied with a freshly flushed toilet. They both have a bowl of fresh water, they don't even have to share. On a related topic, Onyx eats grass whenever she goes out. I seem to remember a special "cat grass" we can grow for our furbabies inside. Anyone know anything about this?

A gloomy damp day here. Neither cat will entertain the idea that there is anything outside worth their attention and damp paws. TJ is snoring in his basket, I was snoozing in the recliner and Onyx was a living "heating pad" curled up on my chest. I don't even have the desire to read a good "mind candy" book. Wish I had an oven, it is the perfect day for French Onion soup.

teh mom/sharing-- when are you worried about the wet cat food spoiling? TJ doesn't leave it in the bowl long enough for even a fragrance of tuna/chicken/turkey to waft up for an average height adult to smell it. Onyx then polishes off any juices or smell left. She cleans it almost as well as soap can.

Yes, Sharing, just after 9pm here and one dashed inside to get away from the sound of rain on the roof. TJ, however, couldn't be bothered to unwind from his tight little (little, my a**) ball on the pillow. He will, however be draped over the screen door threshold to come in at 5:15 am--hopeful to find a full bowl awaiting him. Onyx will, however, be a slug along with me and stay under the comforter until 8am, when she will go out for the morning and TJ will come in to sleep the day away.
20 April 2009
I learned today that there really is a 4:30 am. I thought that was a myth. I woke up before the cats this morning and was not able to drop off again. I'll probably take a nap in the chair sometime today, I'm already sleepy. I did get my weekly planning list done. It is nice to be able to put my entire weekly to do list on a 3"x3" sticky note, including phone numbers. I am determined to empty, process, shred and trash at least two boxes of "stuff" today. This may be difficult if Onyx continues to sleep in my arms. When she is inside she exists in basically three modes--awkward racer, asleep, and non-stop vocal. She chatters more than the average pair of six-year-olds combined. I need to put her in her basket and get busy. Later.

Unbelievably warm today, already 80* and 5 more to go. Of, course, there are to be showers and snow the end of the week. So I may be AWOL most of the day and spend it on the deck with a good book and two puzzled kitties. Today Onyx learned to open the screen door. I was so hoping TJ would NOT teach her that little trick. Check in later, maybe.
Onyx has found something she cant conquer or charm. The Lawn team came today with noisy lawn mowers. There was a streak of black across the lawn then a quivering mass of fur huddling under my chair between my feet. She was inside almost before I had the door open. TJ just twitched his ears back and continued eating. There isn't much of anything that can get between him and his Fancy Feast, not even noisy lawn mowers with strangers attached. I got so much fresh air I can barely stay awake.
