TJ and Onyx are as amusing and amazing as ever. This week while I have been under the weather whenever I try to take a nap or doze in the chair one or the other will join me and snuggle close. Whoever programmed their "nursing" gene did a fine job! TJ is currently flat on his back in a patch of sunshine from the french doors with his paws straight up flexing and curling his toes in ecstasy. He had a long night sleeping next to me and still staying out of Onyx's way. She hasn't quite figured out sharing yet. Onyx is sleeping on my foot with her green stuffed mouse in her mouth.
When feels she needs some attention she has developed the habit of leaping from the floor to bat me on my shoulder when i am sitting in a chair then sliding/falling to the floor, all without extending a claw, then when I reach to pick her up she flattens herself on the floor. I pick her up and she curls up and purrs violently-for about five minutes-then she is off to find another rug to assault. the past few days she has been a terror just before bed-up and down the hall across the bedroom on the bed then under the chair. Just getting herself wound up beyond belief. But within minutes of when I turn off the light she will make a flying pounce onto the bed (and me) wanting to continue the playing, but the moment I catch her and tuck her under the comforter she is out like a light. Wish i could go to sleep like that.
This morning two of the neighborhood tough cats were on the deck staring TJ down. Onyx was inside getting agitated because I wasn't hurrying fast enough, I guess. I opened the door to shoo the bullies away and she was out there tail fluffed and ready to go at them. TJ in the meantime was scurrying inside. I picked her up, much to her disgust, and brought her inside. She was still looking for a fight, enough so that TJ dashed under the table and stayed put. They must have resolved things, I don't hear any violence.
I need to get busy. I am just stalling here visiting with you all, I need to settle up the bills with the local vendors. I am going to keep things paid off monthly. I'm procrastinating because I don't like dealing with big numbers when they are leaving my possession.

Why does Onyx have to chase her tail and wrestle it down on the bed on top of my favorite, old, almost threadbare comforter?
There are so many little rips from her sharp claws that by the time I get them all stitched together again it will look like my grannies crazy quilt, only all one fabric. Of course, I must admit, once she finally decides she has her tail in control it sure gets a good cleaning.

Onyx just came in and wants to be held. She will claw her way up the back of the chair to sit on my shoulder, but when I am sitting at the desk she jumps from the side and I'm not always quick enough to catch her. She will grab at my shoulder then slide down to the floor, once she hits the floor her ears go back in disgust and she will stalk around behind the printer and pout and groom herself until she forgets and tries again. She has NEVER scratched me, even accidentally. I find this amazing. I need to find one of those kangaroo pouches you can carry newborns in, like a reverse backpack. maybe then she would be happy. It ts really hard to type one handed. I think she believes it is bedtime.
'Til tomorrow.

Both cats have been giving me grief all afternoon and evening. The kitchen was curtained off to contain the dust and they had to stay with me in the west wing and go out the french doors in the bedroom--not what they wanted to do. it is about 8:30pm and they are still giving me the cold shoulder, and not quietly either! I guess tomorrow is another day.

I have had such an exciting day today. As I was heading out of the den to fix a sandwich for lunch, TJ headed for the door and Onyx came galloping down the hall to join us. Both cats met up at the door and of course there must be a law somewhere that states two cats can't go through the same door at the same time. Onyx was moving at a good clip but TJ was not willing to give up his "props" so he reached out and pushed her shoulder and she went tumbling head over heels as TJ calmly walked on his way. The look on her face was so comical! And TJ never even looked back.
After they both got outside, one of the neighborhood "meany" cats was just sitting on the deck ready to deal with them. Last night I had left my spray bottle of vinegar water in the counter by the door so I grabbed it and sprayed away. We did this a couple of times and haven't seen him yet. Maybe the vinegar will stop some of the spraying of territory.
Since they have come back inside, Onyx has been giving TJ a wide berth.

Onyx is sitting beside me crying to get my attention. Whenever TJ goes outside without her she gets so upset. I'm not sure if she is complaining because he has a better "curfew" than she does, or if she worrying about him. It is cold so he will be ready to come in shortly. I picked her up and am holding her in my arms, where she immediately started on her morning bath. She will stop every so often to look up and pet my face. i guess with out TJ inside she just needs a little extra security.

Lately Onyx has developed the habit of climbing up the back side of my wingback recliner, over the top and pouncing on my shoulder. I can feel the vibration of her purring all the time. Never quite figured out how she did it since her back legs are not very helpful. Tonight TJ was sleeping there, which she KNOWS is against the law-at least in her world. I caught her climbing up the back of the chair using her front paws only and her back paws just dangling behind her. She's got the moves, but she has got to stop the purring-it is a dead give away. By the time she got to the top TJ was just sitting there waiting for her. She reminded me of the rope acrobats in the circus.
