SOUL STAINS
The facet is leaky.
Driblets of water have left their stain on the once-white porcelain.
Only hard scrubbing will restore its original state. My sorrow is like that.
It dribbles out when the pressure becomes too great and runs down the pale surface of my cheeks.
I can wash away these surface markings but deeper stains remain within.
Regrets, sadness, anger and grief, have all left their mark.
Astringent measures will remove the water-stains from the sink.
But soul-stains take more than the strong abrasive moments of utter honesty.
They need the transforming touch that love brings -- in simple words that hug the soul, warming chilly hollows left by the past.
The annealing power of love strengthens the inner child, making what was brittle and fragile, flexible and vibrant.
Only the memory of soul-stains remains -- a tear-shaped frame for tomorrow’s adult.
