NIGHT FUGUE
Night-breezes, blowing off the lake Play dodge in leafy-armed trees.
Water laps in irregular rhythms against the pier, Nudging its sturdy legs Tirelessly.
Music wavers in the distance, coming From a bright porch, whose mirror-imaged lights Ripple in the restless water.
Splashing swimmers, garbed in night alone Laughing, seem paper-wall close.
A froggy chorus rumbles counter-point.
Summer night fugue for an audience of one.
