I need no calendar to know it is Spring. Onyx has brought me my first bird. She very carefully laid it on the mat at the door and patiently guarded it until I came outside to claim it. As soon as I came out she was off leaving me to claim my bird. Dead birds are so icky!!! As soon as she was gone I got my longest kitchen tongs and disposed of the bird. Ugh! I also now have to be very careful to keep all tabletops and shelves cleared. Calleigh has spotted a bug a couple of times and gone after them--straight up a wall it seems--leaving a path of debris and disaster in her wake. I really worry when she used the computer tower as a launching pad. So now whenever the girls come inside I have to check them for feathery smiles or smiles with little tails. I don't need any extra livestock, dead or alive, in my house. Especially no more snakes, please, Calleigh!

I need to get up and do something constructive. Watching Onyx enjoying a sunny spot with her glossy black fur gleaming and her tail and toes tucked neatly under, her eyes little slits and wearing a self-satisfied smile while Calleigh sprawls on the deck chair on her back with her tail and back paws gradually sliding off the cushion while she snores away make me reluctant to become any more active than I am right now.

Grrrrr!!!!!!!! I have to vent. Tuesday Onyx brought me a dead half-eaten bird. I carefully picked it up, wrapped it up and stashed it in the trash. I think she found where I put the bird. She was ticked off with me and ignoring me. I can deal with that. Then she knocked the paycheck I had received off the table where I put it in plain sight so I would deposit it in the bank today. I picked up the mail and bank stuff and realized the check was missing. I checked all over the table--no check. Then I checked the floor and found it. After she knocked it off the table she peed AND p00ped on it. I wouldn't pick it up let alone deposit it. So after everything was cleaned up I realized it is too late to call my supervisor and explain this fiasco. Tomorrow will be a very embarrassing morning.
Guess who just crawled up in my lap to curl up and snuggle and take a nap!!!! As if nothing ever happened. I guess I have been punished enough.

I am carefully watching my monitor and studiously "ignoring" Calleigh. She found a new "toy" this morning. It was cold enough this morning that she found a sluggish garter snake about 15" long which she promptly brought inside and dropped just inside the door. I just as promptly tossed it back into the garden. We went through this ritual twice, poor gnawed upon-but still alive snake! The third time she got past me too fast for me to get the snake before she hid it. If i ignore her long enough she will get bored and eventually bring out the comatose snake to play with, which I will promptly confiscate.
I should have expected something like this. I put in a new pheromone "plug-in" last night. Calliegh is a bit of a Nervous Nellie and these pheromones help calm her and make her happy. It is obviously working, she can't get enough lap time and petting, and this morning I woke up to a very finely shredded roll of toilet paper carefully spread across the bedroom floor. Whenever she is this relaxed and happy I can expect anything.
Gotta go find and deal with a snake
