I have gone back and forth about even writing this e-mail but decided that it mattered too much to me to just let it be.
I will admit I am rather confused and a bit hurt about what I feel is a major oversight in the Membership Committee or process.
I have seen the growing list of names in the last several newsletters of all the new people joining. And that is great, new ideas and new energy can lead to unexpected benefits.
However, I am wondering why there seems to be no process in place for the retention of current members. I joined the Guild almost six years ago. Have served on the Board, worked the 4th of July booth in 2009, offered to help with this year's booth, chaired the set up and take down of two quilt shows and coordinated a Mystery Challenge. I had thought I could consider several people in the guild as friends as well as fellow members and workers.
I have not been to a meeting since July. And yet I have not received even a quick e-mail from anyone in the membership committee asking if I was going to be renewing my membership or had decided not to. The only communication I have received from anyone to-date was a note last week from Sharon Bogin who wants to remove me from the Yahoo group because, as she points out, it is for Members Only.
I understand people get busy and wrapped up in their own interests and details, and yes no one wants to be seen as nagging. However when a long time member has not been in touch or in attendance for this long is there no procedure for someone to reach out and make sure they are even okay?
At this time I am seriously re-considering my membership due in large part to this matter. If there is no real feeling of community then I no longer understand the point of a guild.
