Would someone please remind me again why I agreed to be on the Quilt Show Committee?
Don't get me wrong, I do like most of the women in this group - but one cannot help but compare the leadership styles of the last chairperson to this year's chair.
Night and Day.
I am so frustrated with the current committee I can hardly express it. And I am more frustrated with the majority of our guild members who, like any other large group, are content to let 5% of the members do 95% of the work. Although in regards to the Show Committee it feels like 1% doing 200% of the work.
What really set me off today began innocently enough last night. I got a message that we were having our last committee meeting this evening. Fine. But I have some big concerns about the organization of this event and I sent them in an e-mail to the group.
Well, I was getting replies back that we had 90+ quilts per this person, and that this other person said 100. And I was supposed to know this HOW? I mean, seeing as the Registrar has not communicated with me since the end of MARCH and then sent me an e-mail saying this was her final listing .... Pardon me for being a pain in the A$$ but shouldn't you be telling the person who is supposed to be making the display arrangements what the H3LL is going on??
I feel like a moron now for sending that e-mail. And of course the chair wants to know NOW how many more we could hang and should we send an e-mail blast to membership saying we have more room? How the H3LL would I know? I just learned of this at 10:00 pm last night and excuse me all to shite but SOME of us actually have a job and don't have the luxury of being home all day to do nothing but this.
My blood pressure is through the roof and I am seriously considering leaving work early today to go home and try and work on this before our meeting tonight at 6:00 pm.
I HATE feeling this pushed.

However I would like to raise a concern I have now so everyone can chime in.At our last show in 2008 we hung 126 quilts. However by my latest reckoning and per Joan's list and e-mail - we currently have only 44 quilts for this show.
And yet we are much larger as a group than two years ago.
* Do we put out an e-mail this week to all members asking for additional entries?
* I am feeling badly about the seemingly lack of interest/response
* I am also not looking forward to telling the rack vendor - "gee, thanks for
running around and acquiring additional racks - turns out we aren't going to even need as
much as we originally ordered"
* And lastly, and most radically, is it worth the effort and expense to put on a show
this small???
Just tossing this out there for discussion.
