Last night I had a conversation with Onyx and TJ about the time change and how things would be different today. Onyx decided to start her day at 4:00 am, and therefore mine and TJ. We tried to ignore her but she spent the next 20 minutes levitating over the bed then crash bombing us. I finally gave up and put her outside. To think, a year ago I worried for her safety thinking she didn't have good climbing skills.
When she came in I told her we were not friends. Since then she has been a total su.ck up. She will come up and lean against my knee and stretch up her paws and beg to be picked up. I can just imagine her saying "up" like any toddler. When I give in and pick her up the purring is so loud i hope none of my neighbors are trying to nap. (for the newbies Onyx is a cat my 19 year old cat, TJ, adopted when she was a kitten over a year ago. Onyx has nerve damage in her hind legs that affect her balance and mobility. Although in her mind she is the perfect princess.) We will see what tomorrow brings. Hopefully, no more middle of the night wake up calls.

Just got back from a terrific Thanksgiving Day. The weather was perfect. The drive up was great, we saw what had to be 75-100 antelope feasting in a field on newly sprouted green winter wheat. The dry grasses, both the blond and red, were blowing very gently in the breeze. The sky couldn't have been more blue. And there was really very little traffic.
Onyx and TJ were not placated until a piece of turkey was offered. I think i am forgiven for leaving them.

I took a BAD tumble over Onyx last night and am all bruised and battered today. Typing is painful. I'll try again tomorrow or the next day.

I am feeling better today. The fingers that I hyper-extended while trying catch myself on the way down have reduced the swelling and the bruising has changed from purple to pink. I am no longer permanently giving the world "the finger". The two fingernails ripped off below the quick don't burn quite so much. My biggest problem now is my back and the muscles pulled on the way down. What makes it worse than it should be is that the damage was to my arthritic hip and knee. Just takes everything longer to heal.
I have been watching the cats today. Onyx wants to play and tussle with TJ and he is giving her a wide clearance. She will dash across the yard wanting to tackle him just to pull herself up about two inches away from him with a paw extended to bat at him. This afternoon she tried again but TJ stuck out a paw and batted her hard enough she tumbled on her side and he went back to washing his face. She sat up with the most baffled expression on her face then turned her back on us and nonchalantly began grooming her paw, with a glance back every now and then to figure out exactly what went wrong with her grand plans. I laughed so hard my sides started to hurt--not that it took much.

I bought a Walmart take-and-bake pizza for my NYE splurge (rather disappointing). However, while i was working on the pizza Onyx zoomed into the kitchen and saw her new favorite toy. She has discovered empty 2 liter bottles roll and skitter across the room and make a funny noise when she tackles them. Well this bottle fought back, it wobbled back and forth then fell, on top of her. I guess a full bottle doesn't "play" like the empty ones.
This is the time I normally start heading to bed. Tonight I was reading in my recliner past time to go to bed evidently. Onyx crawled up the back, over the top and down behind me. She just keeps wiggling until I give up and go to the bedroom. Then she follows me squeaking until the light goes off and she dives for the bed and crawls under the blankets, sticks her head out to hurry me along, I guess. When I do get into bed she curls up by my ear and purrs me a lullaby. She is chewing on my glasses now. I don't know if I will be allowed to stay up late. At least I will be up early to prepare my annual Eggs Benedict to start the new year.
